The Search box at the top of the Dashboard screen is a powerful tool, capable of quickly locating all references across various entries of the system such as customer records, invoices, notes, and more.
The system does account for misspellings. It does account for searching for partial information if only a fragment of the search term is entered.
Due to the way compass indexes information, there are many fields in which the search system can pull search results from. Below is a table of each field which is indexed by Compass, along with the relevant records they are found within.

The other option to search within Compass is through the "Customer Drop down list."
Each one of the options will apply a filter on the complete list of customers within the instance of Compass.
